Millions of dollars in federal aid now available for college students

2

Austin Community College District issued the following announcement on Oct. 1.

The new 2022–23 FAFSA application opens October 1, 2021

The new Free Application for Federal Student Aid (FAFSA) form opens Friday, October 1, 2021. Current and future college students who want money to help pay for college are encouraged to apply. The 2022-23 FAFSA can provide funds for the fall 2022, spring 2023, and summer 2023 semesters. Aid is distributed on a first-come, first-serve basis.

There are three primary types of financial aid opportunities available through the FAFSA, including:

Grants

Work-Study Jobs

Loans

“Paying for college is one of the biggest roadblocks our students face. A lot of people don’t realize they qualify for these federal dollars, but data show the opposite is true. At ACC, nearly everyone who applies qualifies for some type of support,” says Belinda Peña, ACC Financial Aid Outreach & Special Programs manager. “Finding money to help pay for college shouldn’t be complicated. Filling out the FAFSA is the first step to get money you need. We encourage our students to apply early. Those who fill out their forms by the priority deadline may be eligible for more financial aid.”

Undocumented Texas residents also may apply for the Texas Application for State Financial Aid (TASFA). It is an application for grant aid which is free financial aid. Applicants must qualify for Texas residency through Senate Bill 1528.

Starting next week, ACC hosts a series of virtual financial aid workshops where students can get personalized support with their FAFSA or TASFA applications. Students can RSVP for a session here.

Students can learn more and complete the FAFSA application directly online. Families can also download FAFSA's mobile app to submit the form. For guidance and support, visit ACC’s Financial Aid webpage or call the ACC financial aid hotline at 512-223-4636.
