Texas State University reported on Apr. 7 that its men’s and women’s track and field teams have made significant progress in the latest USTFCCCA TFRI Checkpoint 2 national rankings. The men’s team advanced from No. 33 to No. 16, while the women’s team climbed from No. 34 to No. 26, marking a notable improvement for both squads early in the outdoor season.
This development highlights the growing competitiveness of Texas State’s track and field program as it enters key stages of the season. Both teams’ improved standings reflect consistent performances across several event groups.
According to the university, four Texas State event groups are now ranked among the nation’s top five: men’s 110-meter hurdles (No. 1), men’s high jump (No. 1), men’s long jump (No. 3), and women’s shot put (No. 3). The men’s hurdles group has averaged a time of 13.89 seconds this season, with individual times including marks of 13.61, 13.81, 13.98, and 14.16 seconds.
In high jump, Texas State athletes continue to lead nationally with standout performances; Hayes currently holds the nation’s top mark after clearing a height of 2.22 meters at the Bobcat Invitational.
The third-ranked men’s long jump group includes competitors who have achieved distances such as Hammond’s leap of 7.09 meters alongside other marks of up to 7.79 meters this year.
On the women’s side, shot putters have maintained their ranking by consistently posting leading results within both conference and regional competitions.
Looking ahead, Texas State will rest before traveling to California next week for three scheduled meets as part of their ongoing outdoor campaign.
