The game was marked by strong pitching from South Alabama, which kept Texas State from recording a hit until the fourth inning. Texas State’s starting pitcher took her first loss of the season after allowing two runs on two hits over 2.1 innings, with two walks and one strikeout.
South Alabama scored their first run in the third inning following a walk, double, and RBI ground out. South Alabama extended their lead to 3-0 in the fourth with a sacrifice fly following a single. Both teams were retired in order in the fifth inning and had runners on base in the sixth but failed to score additional runs.
In the seventh inning, Texas State attempted a comeback when Coleman walked and was replaced by Mel Reeves as a runner. After another single and wild pitch advanced runners into scoring position, an intentional walk loaded the bases. A pinch-hit walk brought home one run for Texas State; however, subsequent outs ended their rally attempt.
Following this loss, Texas State’s record stands at 23 wins and 16 losses overall with a conference record of five wins and six losses in Sun Belt play. The Bobcats will try to win back part of the series against South Alabama on April 4 at noon before returning home for another matchup against UTSA on April 6.
