Texas State defeated Baylor 9-6 on May 5, marking the 200th career win for Bobcats head coach Steven Trout. The game took place at Irvine-Rasmussen Ballpark and was the team’s final home midweek contest of the season.
The victory is significant as it ends a four-game losing streak for Texas State and highlights a milestone achievement for Trout. Three home runs powered the Bobcats’ offense, with strong contributions from several players.
Freshman pitcher earned his second win of the season after throwing two scoreless innings and striking out four batters. Cade Hansen of Baylor took the loss, allowing three runs on three hits in just under three innings. Seven other Texas State pitchers contributed an inning each out of the bullpen, with multiple pitchers recording two strikeouts apiece and several tossing scoreless frames.
Offensively, four Bobcat players recorded two hits each. One player finished with a double, a home run, and three runs batted in. Another drove in two runs, scored twice, and hit a homerun as well. Two doubles from another player plated runs both times he came to bat, while yet another went two-for-two with two runs scored.
The scoring began in the second inning when Namken singled and then scored on Fryman’s home run over right field. Galloway hit his tenth homer of the season in the third inning—making him one of five Bobcats to reach double-digit home runs this year—and tying a program record set last year. Additional key moments included RBI doubles by Mora and Stewart’s team-leading fourteenth long ball.
Baylor rallied late but could not overcome Texas State’s lead as Froehlich struck out consecutive batters to end the game with bases loaded in the ninth inning.
Looking ahead, Texas State will travel to Arkansas State for a three-game series beginning Friday evening.
