Texas State and Washington State each won a game during their Friday doubleheader at Bobcat Ballpark in San Marcos, Texas. The Cougars took the first game 9-7, while the Bobcats responded with a 10-4 victory in the second matchup.

In the opener, Kaden Wickersham earned his first win of the season for Washington State by recording two outs in relief. Scott Rienguette closed out the final 2.2 innings and struck out four batters to secure his second save. The losing pitcher allowed three runs on two walks and one hit while only recording one out.

The Bobcats scored early, taking a 2-0 lead in the first inning with a double from Galloway and a fielder’s choice by Salas. Dawson extended the lead to 5-1 in the third inning with a three-run home run. Washington State tied it up in the fourth after Ryan Skjonsby’s RBI double and Alexandre Giguere’s three-run homer.

Galloway drove in another run with a slow chopper to third base, putting Texas State back ahead. However, Washington State responded with three runs in the seventh inning—two coming via wild pitches—and added an insurance run in the eighth. Galloway brought home his third run of the game for Texas State with a single to left center.

In game two, Texas State reliever delivered 2.2 perfect innings with six strikeouts to earn his first collegiate win. Griffin Smith started for Washington State and gave up five runs over six innings.

The Bobcats’ starting pitcher threw two shutout frames before leaving due to injury. Other relievers contributed scoreless innings as well.

Galloway went 2-for-4 with two RBIs, two runs, and a double in game two. Another player matched those numbers, hitting both a home run and a double for extra bases.

Namken opened scoring for Texas State with a solo home run in the third inning. Cam Macleod answered for Washington State with his own solo shot in the fifth to tie it at one apiece.

Salas broke the tie with a sacrifice fly before Park hit a two-run homer to center field on the next pitch, giving Texas State control of the game. In the seventh inning, Salas hit an opposite-field home run that accounted for half of Texas State’s six runs that frame; Galloway added a two-run double and Namken contributed an RBI double as well.

Washington State finished scoring by adding three runs in their final at-bat.

The series concludes Saturday at noon.
