Gov. Greg Abbott recently proclaimed his approval after Tesla announced the development of Gigafactory in Texas.
Tesla is an electric vehicle manufacturing facility that will generate at least 5,000 new jobs for the state. The new facility is located in southeast Travis County.
"Tesla is one of the most exciting and innovative companies in the world, and we are proud to welcome its team to the State of Texas,” Abbott said in a press release. “Texas has the best workforce in the nation and we’ve built an economic environment that allows companies like Tesla to innovate and succeed. Tesla’s Gigafactory Texas will keep the Texas economy the strongest in the nation and will create thousands of jobs for hard-working Texans. I look forward to the tremendous benefits that Tesla's investment will bring to Central Texas and to the entire state."
Elon Musk, who is the owner of Tesla, said California was hindering his business by prohibiting Tesla from reopening amid the COVID-19 pandemic.
"Frankly, this is the final straw," Musk stated on Twitter. "Tesla will now move its HQ and future programs to Texas/Nevada immediately. If we even retain Fremont's manufacturing activity at all, it will be dependent on how Tesla is treated in the future. Tesla is the last carmaker left in CA."
