The unemployment rate for the Rural Capital Area continues to slide even as the COVID-19 pandemic rages on.

Recent data from the Texas Workforce Commission showed that the Hill Country region centered around Austin registered a 7.1% unemployment rate in June, a 3.5% drop from May’s figure.

Hays, Bastrop and Caldwell counties recorded rates that were a just below the Rural Capital Area’s. Among the three, Bastrop County was the highest with 7.2%. Caldwell had 7.4% and Hays both counties with 7.9%.

Workforce Solutions Rural Capital Area CEO Paul Fletcher said his agency remains committed to helping businesses and workers navigate the so-called new normal brought by the coronavirus outbreak.

“Our talented workforce and child care services teams are available to ensure immediate accessibility for our communities, and we are ready and eager to help people transition back to employment,” Fletcher said on the WSRCA’s website. “We are reaching out to people and welcome their reaching out to us, to ensure they get the assistance they need to make that transition and find sustainable workforce solutions.”
