Hays County joins growing list of plaintiffs in lawsuit over Permian Highway Pipeline

Pipeline 2

A Texas Commissioners Court was the latest plaintiff added to a lawsuit with the goal of stopping the installation of a natural gas pipeline.

Hays County has joined Travis County, Austin, San Marcos, Barton Springs Edwards Aquifer Conservation District, and landowners taking legal action against Kinder Morgan, the company building the Permian Highway Pipeline.

The plaintiffs claim the pipeline goes against the Endangered Species Act. Hays County Precinct 3 Commissioner Lon Shell said construction will endanger their natural resources. Other defendants listed in this lawsuit include the U.S. Fish and Wildlife Service and the Army Corps of Engineers.

Kinder Morgan is already facing multiple lawsuits in connection with the Permian Highway Pipeline project. The pipeline would stretch from West Texas to Katy, about 30 miles outside of Houston. It's a $2 billion project that when completed would carry natural gas about 430 miles. Construction has already begun.
