Stan Gerdes, a Republican member of the Texas State House representing District 17 since 2023, has recently shared updates on legislative and local government issues through his social media posts.

On August 18, 2025, Gerdes commented on local fiscal policy in Smithville, stating, “Last year, Smithville citizens joined me in fighting back against the City’s outrageous tax hike—and we won, cutting wasteful spending and protecting taxpayers. But this year, the City Manager is back with a vengeance and defying our City Council. Rather than making meaningful https://t.co/q2j0VMuNEY”.

The following day, Gerdes highlighted legislative action regarding redistricting efforts in Texas. On August 19, he posted: “I just voted to send the #BigBeautifulMap (HB 4) to the floor from Calendars. We will deliver FIVE new Republican seats in Texas, and Make America Great Again! #txlege https://t.co/vsbg3Fj2PE”.

Later that same day, Gerdes addressed water management concerns involving Austin’s municipal plans for Bastrop County: “The City of Austin got lucky. My bill to stop their unprecedented plan to inject and store their treated city water into our Bastrop County aquifer passed the House—but died in the Senate due to a procedural error. That’s the only reason their plan is still alive. This isn’t”.

Gerdes was elected to his seat in 2023 after replacing John Cyrier as state representative for Texas’s 17th House district.
