Texas State defeated Arkansas State 6-2 in the opening game of their series on May 8, with freshman Cooper pitching a complete game at Tomlison Stadium.
The win is significant for Texas State, improving their record to 29-21 overall and giving them momentum in Sun Belt Conference play. Cooper’s performance stood out as he struck out a career-high 12 batters while allowing two runs on six hits. This marked the first time a Bobcat pitcher has thrown a complete game on the road since March 23, 2024.
“What a performance by . He just competed all night and was rewarded with a complete game win,” said head coach . “It feels really good to win on Friday. I felt like the offense was really good and a great job of two-out hitting. We have to get ready to go win a series tomorrow.”
At the plate, several Texas State players contributed with multiple hits and runs batted in. Both Vossos and another player drove in two runs each, while Galloway and Stewart scored twice. The Red Wolves initially took an early lead with Evan Griffis delivering an RBI sacrifice fly, but Texas State responded in the fourth inning when Vossos drove in two runs to put them ahead.
Arkansas State tied it again briefly before Boles doubled down the right field line in the fifth inning and later scored to regain the lead for Texas State. The Bobcats added insurance runs late in the game through timely hitting from Namken and others.
Looking ahead, game two of the series is scheduled for Saturday evening at Tomlison Stadium.
